The secrets of Korean bathhouses, at home

This book gathers the head-to-toe beauty rituals Korean women have passed down from generation to generation. Rice water for shiny hair, scalp massage, the famous seshin body scrub, ginger and mugwort foot soaks, hand care, and a Korean spa in your own bathroom. All with ingredients you can find at the market or grocery store, in just 10 to 30 minutes. Eight chapters, each with its own step-by-step ritual, so you can pamper yourself without the hassle.

Meet Hana Park

Hana was born in Busan, Korea, and grew up in the steam of her neighborhood's public bathhouses, where her grandmother spent thirty years scrubbing women's skin with a mitt and plenty of love. Her mom rinsed her hair with rice water before cooking the rice: nothing went to waste in their home. She trained as a bath therapist in Seoul and worked for ten years at one of the city's largest Korean spas. In 2006 she moved to Monterrey, Mexico, for her husband's job, without knowing anyone and unable to find her ingredients. It was her neighbor, Doña Lupita, who took her to the Mercado Juárez: there she discovered that estafiate (Mexican mugwort) is a cousin of the herb her grandmother used, and she began adapting each ritual to what she could find locally. Her neighbors started asking for her secrets, her kitchen became a workshop, and today, at La Casa de Baño in San Pedro Garza García, she has welcomed thousands of women. In this book she shares with them, and with you, everything she has learned.
